Ipswich vs Southampton: betting odds 1 Feb 2025

The Matchday 24 encounter in the Premier League between Ipswich and Southampton will take place on February 1 at Portman Road. Ipswich vs. Southampton: prediction and betting odds, statistics.

Ipswich

January was a challenging month for Kieran McKenna's side. The team started with a 2-2 draw against Fulham, followed by three consecutive defeats. At home, the club lost to Brighton (0-2) and Manchester City (0-6), and then suffered a 1-4 defeat away to Liverpool. Ipswich remains in the relegation zone but is just one point away from the safe 17th place. Notably, the club has scored only 21 goals in the current championship, with only two clubs scoring fewer.

Forward Chiedozie Ogbene is out for the season due to injury. The participation of forward Conor Chaplin and midfielders Wes Burns and Sammie Szmodics is doubtful.

  • No more than three goals have been scored in 7 of the last 9 home games in the Premier League.
  • At least one team failed to score in Ipswich's last four home matches in the Premier League.
  • The club has won only once in the second half in their last 17 league matches (6 draws and 10 losses).

Predicted lineup for Ipswich (4-2-3-1)

Christian Walton – Dara O'Shea, Axel Tuanzebe, Leif Davis, Jacob Greaves – Sam Morsy, Kalvin Phillips – Wes Burns, Jaden Philogene, Omari Hutchinson – Liam Delap.

Southampton

The team continues to sit at the bottom of the Premier League table. Ivan Juric's side is now 11 points away from the safe 17th spot. The club enters this match with a six-game losing streak in the league. Notably, Southampton has conceded three or more goals in their last four league outings. Additionally, the team has the worst defense in the tournament, having conceded 53 goals.

Forwards Tyler Dibling and Ross Stewart are out due to injuries. The participation of defender Jack Stephens and forward Kamaldeen Sulemana is doubtful.

  • At least three goals have been scored in the club's last five Premier League matches.
  • The number "1" appeared in the final score in 10 of Southampton's last 13 league matches.
  • The team has failed to score in the second half in 9 of their last 10 Premier League matches.

Predicted lineup for Southampton (3-4-1-2)

Alex McCarthy – Jan Bednarek, James Bree, Taylor Harwood-Bellis – Ryan Manning, Kyle Walker-Peters, Lesley Ugochukwu, Joe Aribo – Mateusz Fernandes – Adam Armstrong, Paul Onuachu.

Ipswich vs. Southampton: Match Prediction

In a clash between two of the Premier League's weakest teams, I favor the hosts. The home advantage could play a significant role in this encounter. Moreover, Kieran McKenna's side has the opportunity to move out of the relegation zone after this game, while the visitors are clear underdogs, not only conceding the most goals in the league but also scoring the fewest.

Southampton has failed to win in their last 19 consecutive away league matches, losing 15 of those. Ipswich has managed only one home victory in the Premier League 2024/25 season, but that win came against a strong Chelsea side. The team also took points from formidable opponents like Fulham, Manchester United, and Aston Villa. Therefore, my prediction is Victory for Ipswich.

Betting tips 1 Feb 2025

A classic relegation battle is set to unfold as Ipswich Town host Southampton, with both teams desperate for points. While Ipswich Town are clear favourites at home, Southampton’s defensive frailties and lack of attacking efficiency could prove costly.

Ipswich Town have struggled in their last two fixtures, suffering heavy defeats to Manchester City (0:6) and Liverpool (1:4). However, these results were expected against two of the strongest sides in the league. Despite conceding 37 goals in 21 matches, Ipswich have fared much better against teams in and around them in the table. Notable results include a 1:0 away win over Wolverhampton, a 1:1 home draw with Leicester City, and a shock victory over Chelsea without conceding.

Southampton are in crisis mode, suffering six consecutive league defeats, conceding 17 goals in that period. Their defensive struggles have been particularly glaring, as four of those losses saw them allow three or more goals. Injury concerns are further compounding their issues: Tyler Dibling (winger)  has been sidelined since the Nottingham Forest match and is expected to return only in late February. Aaron Ramsdale (first-choice goalkeeper) suffered a muscle injury before the Newcastle United match and remains unavailable. Jack Stephens (captain and centre-back) has been out since early December, weakening an already vulnerable defence.

Southampton also continue to struggle in front of goal, recording the worst xG difference in the league (-12.15 xGDiff). Their previous meeting with Ipswich ended 1:1, but Southampton missed three of their four big chances, while Ipswich converted efficiently (2.49–1.69 in xG). The hosts should be able to capitalise on home advantage and take all three points.
